Fractures

Impaired mobility or paralysis is inevitably accompanied by some degree of weakening of the skeleton. Furthermore, in such cases the muscles are often so wasted that they provide little protection for the bones. Fractures can therefore occur relatively easily, especially when unexpected loads are applied.Such fractures are often extensive with considerable splintering in the fracture area. Minor fractures may not be discovered immediately if the athlete has impaired sensitivity. Athletes who wear support braces should loosen them during sporting activities in case they act as levers and contribute to a fracture.
