Posterior Capsule

The posterior capsule starts just proximal to the posterior band of the IGHL. The posterior capsule is the thinnest portion of the shoulder capsule, measuring less than 1 mm in thickness (average thickness 1.5 mm), and as a result is believed to be the cause of poor results following posterior instability surgery. The posterior capsule limits posterior translation when the arm is in the forward flexed, adducted, and internally rotated position.
